Manuscript Evaluation

I occasionally do manuscript evaluations, professional commitments permitting.  I will read (several times) your play, screenplay or work of fiction.  I will then write a carefully considered response, generally 2 to 3 (single spaced) pages in length, outlining strengths and areas that seem to require attention.  My focus is always on the overall flow of the material.  I do not do “line edits”, i.e., tiny suggestions, ideas for different pieces of dialogue, etc.  And I don’t collaborate.

I am a widely experienced writer, having worked, since the 1980s, in the professional theater, in Hollywood, on works of fiction.  I have also taught extensively, at the Universities of Minnesota, Washington, at the Loft, the Playwrights Center, etc.  I have a highly unique perspective on new work.

My rates are reasonable.  I charge $75 per hour.  It has been my experience that a full length play or screenplay requires roughly $250 worth of attention.  If the writer wants a face-to-face meeting I can do that, but it will sometimes require an additional charge.  I will always give you an accurate assessment of what the costs are.  No unpleasant surprises.  Fees are payable in advance.
